Design of the Year: Newspaper Front Page — Best of the Massachusetts High School Press 2017-2018
June 20, 2018
First place:
Catherine Granfield, Ilan Rotberg, and Netta Dror
The Lion’s Roar, Newton South High School
Ashley Chapman, adviser
Judge’s comments: Nice use of photography and simple colours too so not harsh on the eyes, photography is relevant, font is nicely kept in theme of what the piece is about, page isn’t too loud.
Second place:
Cassidy Wang, The Harbinger, Algonquin Regional High School
Lindsay Coppens, adviser
Judge’s comments: I like how powerful the picture is, and the use of pull quotes on the front is nice, too. That being said, spacing looks a tiny bit awkward in terms of the words on the second half of the page so maybe find a better way of presenting that.
Third place
Maggie Del Re and Elissa Gorman, The Harbinger, Algonquin Regional High School
Lindsay Coppens, adviser
Judge’s comments: Looks professional, I like the tabs on the top that highlight the news stories on the inside, the image is a little distracting though as it is pretty loud, nice that it draws attention but maybe there could be more wording around it.
