Judge’s comments: “In a moment of distress, we are together” — this is the message Eddinger’s photo sends. The two students holding each other in the middle, while being surrounded by many others, exemplifies how a picture is able to tell multiple stories in the same frame. Photographing such an important and unique event also deserves praise from a photojournalistic perspective.
